This pattern forces bowlers to play deep inside the center of the lanes in order to find a consistant line to the pocket. Thoses who are willing and able to move left will find their comfort zone early.

The key to understanding the Sting Ray is the acceptance of “deep inside line” and not attempting to make shots that this lane condition will not allow. The “out of bounds” on the outside portion of the lane has been increased, making errant shots wide of the target in danger of once again falling into the “gutter”. With less oil being placed in the middle of lane on this lane condition, bowlers will see their ball roll earlier on the lane and will have to manage a stronger change of direction. Bowlers who play the wrong angle on the Sting Ray will feel as if the pattern is a “reverse block”. The scoring pace for this pattern will be medium with the champion having the ability to get the corner pins out while playing to stay out of trouble with splits. Making spares will again be the number one factor to scoring on this lane condition in order to win the day. (Similar to the PBA Shark)
